CASTLE LITE BAR BUILD

case study overview

Challenge

Positioned at the rear of the arena, the bar faced an immediate visibility challenge. Players and visitors entering from the front needed to identify the bar instantly and navigate to it with ease. A destination set away from the main entrance risks being overlooked, regardless of the quality of the build or the strength of the branding.

The second challenge was integration. The bar could not read as an afterthought. It needed to work with the venue's existing industrial infrastructure, including its exposed concrete pillars, while remaining unmistakably Castle Lite. The objective was cohesion, not contrast.

Goal

The brief centred on three outcomes that needed to hold true simultaneously: the bar had to be identifiable from the arena entrance, comfortable enough to encourage patrons to stay, and seamlessly integrated into the existing space so it felt original to the venue rather than added on.

Critically, the goal was never to simply brand a bar. It was to design a complete branded space that connected the Castle Lite brand to the sports arena, using the building's existing infrastructure as a foundation rather than a constraint.

Solution

Marshmallow Projects built the design around a small number of signature feature pieces, allowing standout custom signage and finishes to carry the brand identity rather than relying on repeated logo placement.

A landmark feature for instant wayfinding. The centrepiece is a large-scale concrete snowflake, a custom interpretation of the Castle Lite castle logo, illuminated with a blue LED halo. Positioned to be visible directly from the arena entrance, this feature resolves the wayfinding challenge and establishes the bar as a recognisable landmark within the venue.

Custom embossed branding at the counter. Beneath the bar counter, a concrete-embossed Castle Lite logo that echoes the brand's signature slant, reinforcing the identity at eye level through material and form rather than printed graphics.

Materials that integrate with the architecture. Raw concrete finishes connect directly to the arena's existing concrete pillars, allowing the bar to read as part of the building's architecture. Considered accents of Castle Lite's signature jolt blue keep the brand present throughout the space without overpowering it.

An atmosphere designed for comfort. To transform a rear-of-venue location into a space people want to occupy, a suspended ceiling treatment was installed over the upper bar area, fitted with LED strip lighting and artificial greenery. The result lowers the visual ceiling, warms the atmosphere, and turns a functional corner into an intimate, comfortable social environment.
